Shetler was driving his van in the 500 block of Abner Lee Drive in Fort Worth, when he was hit head-on by Pierce in his Chevrolet Trailblazer. He was driving on the wrong side of the road, trying to pass in a no-passing zone. Shetler died at the scene. To make matters worse, Pierce decided to flee the scene of the accident, making this a hit-and-run. Luckily, authorities were able to apprehend him pretty quickly.
